    My m50 swap exhaust setup

Since I've seen a few people asking about the exhaust side of the m50 swap I thought I might put a link up to my thread on our new zealand based forum.
Got some pics on there of the extractors getting made up etc

    Any questions just ask..

I wouldn't suggest using it. It's been known quite well to cause cracks from over heating. Plus it holds water and starts to decay the pipe.
Looks pretty good, hope it flows well.

              NZ,
I'm considering a similar setup myself. My concern is that the lengths of the 2 secondery pipes are not equal. Did you give any thought to this?

i've been told different lengths pipes will create resonans in the pipping, end result being an audible sounds and vibration

since it has to do with wavelengths, there could be the possibility of drone sound and vibration

i also have been told to reduce/eliminate this phenomenon ,a few pieces of metal should be welded along the the exhaust pipes connecting one another

don't really have a comparison between before and after, so ican't comment on that, but i do have the length of of exhaust welded in 3 different places with a connecting metal, near the downpipes, just before the centerbox and another before the rearbox

anyone care to shed some ideas on this?

                  agree with joshh

over here the high humidity eats up the pipes from within, worst still is you can't really tell if the pipes or wraps have bitten the rust/dust

there is also the possibility that oil splillage can cause smoke and fire to the wraps, was just informed about this from an amg driver as he spilt some engine oil on the wraps and had to idle out the car as the wraps was heavily emitting smoke

i could see how that would help with some of it by helping to phase out some of the resonances, but once you do that then the exhuast looses some of it's energy, because exhuast has kinetic(moving through the pipes), thermal, and sound (can't think of the other word for it) energy.
but my understanding of GOOD exhaust setups is that you want it all equal so that once one cylinder is done pushing gasses through the pipes, as it moves further away from the engine it creates like a vacuum behind it pulling helping to pull the exhuast from the next cylinder, and so on and so forth. but to do that, and to do it well, requires many, many, many hours of calculations and testings and a good CAD designer in some cases.

                      Hmm

                      Morning Guys

                      Cheers for the feedback.
Yeah the main extractors are all equal length to within .002m cubed as we filled them with liquid and meassured the capacity so pretty happy with that.
As far as the wrap goes ..... I havn't tried it before .... others say it's awesome others say it's not I've used ceramic coating before and it's expensive so will give it a go for a while and see.

Spoke to my engineer mate and he rekons there might be a bit of resonation and vibration but he's welded everything up tough and the flowing gasses are kinda collecting into a bigger diameter ( no restriction at all ) so these will be minimal. Plus we don't have exhaust laws down here so I'm running a 2 1/2" mild steel rite through with 1 resonator and 3" truck muffler. Going to finish it this morning so will post pics up tonight

                      Thanks

yep all finish and road legal. Running quite well except I'm not sure if my gearbox input shaft is actually in the spigot bearing. hence I think it's floating round. Haha got 180 kmh out of 3rd gear today with my new 2.93 Lsd
