    No Fuel Pump

I am trying to start my non vanos swapped 325 and the fuel pump is not turning on. I tested and I have power at the relay, and when I jumper the relay the pump turns on. However when I replaced the relay it didnt change anything. The fuel pump still does not turn on. I am thinking the dme is bad, anyone have any other suggestions on what to do??

Do you have the fuel lines reversed? If they are reversed the pump won't run when you crank the car (DME tells the pump that the car is not running and stop sending fuel), but it will run when you bypass the relay.

The fuel pump isnt even turning on, when you turn the key to the spot right before the ignition the pump should turn on. I dont have the lines crossed I do know that. When you turn the key to the on position not start, ie not cranking over, you should hear the pump intialize and turn on breifly but it doesn't do that at all.

check to see that the ecu is grounding the relay.

How do you check that? I was using a test light and put it to positive and checked the ground on the connector and it lit up so I am assuming that it is good. If there is a different way or better way to do it let me know please.

ya as long as the correct pin on the relay is getting a good ground. If it is getting ground and 12volt check the fuse as it should be working.

I had that same problem, it turned out to be a a problem with the main relay.

                  What ecu do you have?

I had the same problem, turned out I had a ECU with Ews that does a fuel cut off as well as spark cut off.

Got the proper ECU and it started right up.

You could try hardwiring the fuel pump to test and see if that works.
Slight chance the fuel pump could be faulty.

I didnt think that the non vanos engines had ews

Crank over the engine and check for spark. If you have none, I'd look at the crank position sensor.

Hi! I'm new to this forum and I am from South-Africa. I did an engine swap last week at home. I did an engine transplant from a e36 325i 93 (pre vanos) to a e30 320i 84. Everything is set and ready to start but there is no spark or fuel pump kicking in. I wired my fuel pump directly to the 12v so it does pump now but still no start. The engine is turning with the starter but no go. I have the DME with ending no. 413 or a maroon label. I thought the problew was with EWS, but aparently this ecu has no EWS.. There is another thread where one member sugested disconnecting pin 66 on the DME and it worked for that case. But my pin 66 is not used at all... Please assist in any way you can, I need the car to work soon

I found some mistakes I made today but still no change. I have three relays that came with the wiring hareness. One switches on all the power to the red/white wires. The second switches the fuel pump and the third one I'm not sure. I've used the mutimeter to check whats up with the relays. The later 2 relays above has 2 redwhite wires and thus, according to my knowledge, there should be a earth to kick in the relay and another wire that then receives power. For the fuel pump relay, I have a green/brown wire that needs the power for the pump. The other comes from the ECU and I would then guess that this wire needs to be grounded by the ECU. But I get a 12V reading here! Basicly the same story with the third relay. Is this normal or is my ECU gone with the wind? If any one can help I would be so greatfull!

I noticed that on another E36 (328i with vanos) the wire hareness only has 2 relays and mine has 3... I know that the one is for powering the red/white wires after turning the key, and the second is for the fuel pump. What is the third one for?

Solved it! My DME was faulty. Just ram a 403 in there and whola! Engine started first try! It sounds great!
