I am starting to collect parts...

Well, I had some plans for the stock 325is M20 motor, but I have changed my mind today. I have to replace my oil pan, and do some other items. When I did the compression test one valve was a small amount weaker than the rest...so I am now going to do the M50/S50/S52/S54 swap. Depending on the motor I find...I have a quote for the following though:

S52 (30K), 5 Speed Trans (e36) all the wiring needed done, and a custom exhaust - turn key in a week for $7,500 to $8,000.

I have always done my own work, but I never have the time now, so I am thinking about it. I am not sold on it though. I know I could get all the parts and do it myself cheaper.

That's not a bad price, because it will cost around $6-7k if you do a whole bunch of maintenance and use new wear parts (flex disc, clutch, water pump, hoses, plugs, thermostat, thermostat housing, radiator, fasteners) and go all new on brake parts and do the swap yourself.

Which transmission, the M3/328 ZF or the Getrag 250?

They were offering the M3/328. I asked about my trans, and he said I could make it work, but I do not want to half ass it.

You aint half-assin it with the stock Getrag..its a great trans

you will have to change your diff also with the E36 trans

oh, and driveshaft depending on the trans

I will ask him if that can be worked into the price. I am cool with it - so we will see. I want to do all the moto/suspension/5lug before all the body items (mtechnicII)

That price is a steal. You won't be able to get the parts together for less than $6K - especially with a 30K mile engine and a custom exhaust.

A lot of guys say they prefer the getrag 260 thats already in the car. A custom mount needs to be made, but supposedly it's better than the E36 trans.

Not really half assing it, just a different way of doing things.

search Douche, there's a 50+ page thread that explains most everything

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
