    Compatability of an obd1 s52

I have spent lots of time researching the s5x swaps. I decided that an s50 was what I wanted to do based on the simplicity of the swap with an obd1 engine. However, s50's are not that easy to come by.

I've found a guy parting a 97 m3 with an s52 that has been converted to obd1 already. Since I don't know all the details involved in the obd2 to obd1 conversion, I don't know if this is necessarily plug-n-play for use in an e30.

Obviously many people have used obd1 converted s52s in e30 swaps. Are there any details I should be aware of if using a previously converted s52? I don't know exactly what to be looking for here.

    Any input is appreciated.

    thanks, Andy

This is what the guys says:
"This is an obdII engine. s52 3.2l however converted to the 0bdI wireing
harness and ecu, this creates more torque throughout the range of gears. The
conversion was simple and is complete. If you have an obdI wireing harness
it will just plug right in. All of the changes (sensors, waterjacket, etc)
are on the engine itself and are already complete"

It sounds good, but Zionsville charges $1500 for the conversion kit, which doesn't seem so "simple"

    Thanks

you either buy the Treehouse c101 adapter, or chop off the end of the engine harness, and splice your old engine-side c101 socket to it. usual e34 5-er pan, pickup, and oiltube & dipstick are needed. motor mounts, exhaust massage, add a 320 or 325ix(and others) brake booster, maybe a throttle cable too - I had to buy one.

You might want to buy the Zionsville discs, really good info, and you sound like you found your way to their site already.

If I forgot anything refer to the stickied thread at the top. If it is too much trouble to read it all, then just pay a shop to do the swap work. Don't mean to be harsh, but all the info really is in the top thread. And if you read something that is already done to the motor in question, then you'll know why.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

        ok, I'll rephrase the question.

Are there any small differences between an obd1 converted s52 for use in an e36 vs. one prepared for use in an e30?
