Mass airflow sensor on its side

Will a mass airflow sensor not work if its rotated 90 degrees? I rotated mine so I could use a 735 airbox and now the car is sputtering when I accelerate.

it shouldn't matter, at least i dont think so, mine is twisted as some degeree i'm not sure of and it's running like a champ. someone correct me, but until then i'm leaving it

I just rotated it back around and it runs much better now. Before it would be fine and then cut out drastically. If yours doesn't do that I bet your fine.

orientation of the MAF is important only to the extent of the shape of the pipes in front of it. The sensor element in the MAF unit itself is not centered. it is closest to the plug. If you have a bend directly before the MAF sensor, then the airflow in the pipe directly behind the bend is not as even as one would like. Thus sensor readings will be different depending on orientation. A solution is to put a longer length of straight pipe in front of the sensor. Another is to recalibrate the MAF transfer function in the ECU to more accurately correlate MAF readings to the actual airflow.

If the car is lean, move the maf plug torwards the outside of the bend. if the car is rich, move torwards the inside.

Thanks, that makes alot of since. I rotated my MAF sensor arround which corrected the stalling problem but it seems short on power. I bet the mixture is not correct.
