    S50 swap exhaust

I'm in So Cal so I want to keep my car smog legal.

I am looking for some input into this plan.

I have the 95 E36 downpipe and cat. I was planning on having an exhaust shop cut my downpipe flange and build a custom section between the downpipe and the cat. I was also planning on including a 2 into one merge in that custom section before the cat.

I want to keep the duel exhaust all the way to the back.

Should I purchase an E36 catback system (aftermarket exhaust)? I assume an E30 catback would provide too much back pressure.

Does anyone know a good performance exhaust shop in So Cal (either OC or San Diego area)?

    Thanks

Are we out of opinions today???

    Any help would be appreciated.

I had my exhaust fabbed by Bud at Mesa Muffler in Costa Mesa, CA.

He'll do anything you want. I had my exhaust system fabricated from the exhaust manifold to the muffler for $600.

        I appreciate the feedback.

Did you merger into a single pipe all the way back or did you run 2 pipes?

        Thanks

Merge into single all the way back. It keeps the car pretty quiet but not too loud. Bud said that splitting within the muffler to two pipes makes it louder.

Thanks for the feedback bdi fc.

I'm still thinking about using the E36 cat with an E36 aftermarket cat back made to fit the E30.

Is anyone else running this kind of setup right now that can provide feedback?

Can you modify the E36 cats and catback to fit? Does it work well? Is it not worth the effort?

            Thanks

Run a single pipe w/ a magnaflow cat. They have cats that are CA smog legal and are only about $55+/- on ebay.

What exhaust are you currently running?

I am running stock OBDII center section (needed slight message to fit) cats and behind teh little resonators it converts to a 3inch, where it taps into a Borla universal with 3 inch in and dual outs. Great flow and sounds great.

got any pics of that trent? which headers?

I'm using the e36 OBDI cats with a stock e36 m3 muffler. It's the only place I cheaped out on my swap. But it works welll, is quiet, and I passed the rolling road emission test here so it's all good for now. Ebay supersprint knockoffs and a new muffler are in my future though.

isnt 3in too big? do you have a motor swap?

im thinking of having an exhaust made for my m50.
i was gonna have it merge from 2 to 1 after the cat and run 2.5"
straight back with a resonator, and some muffler.
2.5" might be do small but i dont think muffler shops have 2.75" pipe

my s50 runs pretty happily with 2.5" single mandrel bent pipe
shops might have 2.75 but you won't find mufflers/cats with this size
