What model can I find a diff from???

I wnat something with little mod to work(cover, output flanges) that will give me about 3.25-3.55 in LSD. What is the most plentiful?

The 3.25 is more common than the 3.46. Either way you're going to have to scour salvage yards, ebay, or the classifieds sections.

Worst case scenario you can get a 2.93 from an eta for now, and swap to a better ratio later.

You want a 3.25, start looking at E28's, you just need to swap the rear cover and half shafts (easy job)

Dude some e28 535's and all e28 m5's had large case differential's. These will not fit into a e30. Different mounting points on the subframe. Trust me I bought a large case for my swapped e30 and could not fit it without making serious modifications. The way to tell betweent the case's is large case has 8 bolts holding the side plates togetther(the part that bolts to the halfshaft) medium has 6 and small case that came on most 4cyl have only 4 bolts.

            hope this helps

I stand corrected. How about this:

Before buying an e28 535i 3.25 differential, ask for a picture of it so you know which one you are getting, bc apparently there is a large difference such that you could visually identify the discrepencies between the two.

I think the 2.93 will actually give you a stock E36 ratio because of the smaller wheels of the E30.

Yeah, the 2.93 will definitely give you great highway cruising.

E28 or E24 diff is what you'll want.

                          2.93 worked well for me. e34 2.5 m50 with e30 zf (yes that's rite it's a e30 ZF) gearbox m20 flywheel/ clutch /starter etc

Was good on open road but a little bit tall for around town in heavy traffic.

                          I could 193kmh outta 3rd gear

So Matt, will a S3.54 out of an M6 fit?

I believe the E24 received a 3.64S at one point. The revs will still be pretty friggin high. An M6 diff should work.
