Sounds like Paul gave you good advice considering your vague question, and you didn't appreciate his input. I would've felt the same way as him, except I probably wouldn't have wasted the time writing that long reply calling you out afterwards.

And I don't know what other forums you're on, because this one for sure has a buncha jerks that'll make those kinds of statements and worse ;)

Honestly, it seems like the guy gave you a lot of good advise and you, not him, was the one being a shmuck. Trust me when I tell you that most professional technicians who do this crap all day don't have a whole lot of patience for someone who doesn't appreciate their advise.

read through all of that for a little ragging on a forum? I was waiting for something really offensive. WHAAAA. gheez, the guys on this board can be far more brutal.

What ever happened to r3v's reputation for being a big bunch of a-holes? sometimes I miss that.

I think there's plenty of information on the 24v swap forum. If you have questions about the engine, hop over to the bimmerforums E36 M3 subforum. There's plenty of info on engine DIYs such as tacking the OPN, replacing crank sensors, and doing an OBD-I swap.

It sounds like you're itching to get this project done, and I know what it's like. A lot of the questions and stuff you're unsure about will become crystal clear once you begin the swap.

I think Paul wrote a lot more than I would. I would have just posted .

IMO I think you just took a little too much offense to his comment about "Didn't realize that you didn't know how to build the engine." Quite frankly you were asking a string of questions that were fairly obvious, or easy to find the answers on a different forum. Should I tack the OPN. Yes.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I wouldn't mess around with the VANOS on an S52 unless I fired up the engine and found it was screwed up. The M/S5x family of engines are pretty damn stout, and aside from doing an oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, thermostat housing, thermostat, waterpump, and some new spark plugs, there is nothing really you need to do before you whip in the engine. Maybe if you were REALLY anal you'd check the VANOS travel before you buttoned up the valve cover.

What exactily were you looking for???

there are way too many people who either dont have the intelligence of funds to start these swaps and then they panic when it doesnt work... what do you want when you do a swap on 50% of the parts and bearly the abolity to change your own oil....

hey ass, learn to spell for one, and second, i run a shop, ive been in the field for ten plus years, all i was asking if people have any hints or issues to check, i guess the m/s50/2 engines are so great you just bolt it together and go, i know some vehicle have little nuances and things that are not an obvious issue but cause a problem, yeah i know how to change my oil, and yeah i plan on using about 100% + of the parts, i have ordered oem every gasket for engine, not just basics, and new alt and other assorted components, i dont do 50% shit, so BeirBrennerE30, jump in a fukin lake.

                          out...
