Question for a friend, on s52 to e30M3?

Do you really have to convert an s52 engine to OBD-1 to run in an e30 or can you run an OBD-2 into an e30 as is?

I told my bud to do an s50 but he came across an s52 at a great deal.

some people run obdII motors. The wiring is nuts to do this however and why not go obd1? You get more power and its not hard, buy a donor m50 for a couple hundred and free up some h/p.
