    325i or 525i engine

Im sure this is a big DUH, but does the 525i come with non vanos??

Im about to order for an engine, but should i just get the 525i m50 engine so i dont have to change the oil pan and stuff as if i went with a 325i engine.

Is there any drawbacks goin with the 525i nv, or its basically the same engine, besides the oil pan setup??

the same... but the wiring harness is a bit shorter than the e36 one...

But still fits just fine. Arguably the 5 series harness is better since you can easily retain your oil level function.

      525's came with non-vanos for 91 and 92

The E34 is a lot wider than the E30, so it's not really an issue...

I've got a motor from a 91 525i. I'm glad I went with that because I didn't have to mess with the oil pan. The harness isn't that much shorter since it is going into an E30 and shouldn't make too much of a problem, just make sure you give it a little tug when it goes into the glove box (if you are having problems with it).

It seems to me that alot of people that are doing the e30 swap go with the E36 325i engine and go through all the trouble to modify the oil pan setup.

Why dont most people just go with the E34 525i engine and make their lives easier?? is it close to the same price from one to the other??

Is their any other differences between the setup going with the e34 525i engine might interfere with that normally isent seen when doing the e36 325i engine??
----(or is basically the engine, head, manifolds, ect.. is all the same besides the oil pan setup??)

Are the transmissions the same from the 325i to 525i??

Hope you guys can help clear some things up for me, Thanks

More E36s get wrecked with decent mileages on them than E34's

Tell me how! I looked around but ive heard you have to run all new wires to the engine/car harness.

Harder to find an E34 but once found, there is a way better chance that it will be in better shape right? I want one from a 525 touring those probably didn't hit WOT daily. But then again the M50 in my e34 gets driven hard, and it is still smooth and runs great.

For sake of not making a new thread, ill bump this one.

So i aparently had the fuel consumption wire and the oil level wire switched in my harness adapter. Now the economy thing works but my oil level llight is still on and it pisses me off. Is there a way i can jumper the thing to see if my level sender is bad or if i have it wired wrong?

                          Thanks in advance.
