What kindda gear ratio will I want w/m50??

OK bimmer fans, I have been around here 4 a bit & have ALWAYS planned to swap a S5/x onro my 92 e30 vert (which has a m42 as we speak) BUT as things went this winter I NOW have a free m50 which I want to utilize since I have been told that I CANT get my HP 'goal" with. I have just recently "toasted" the 4:27 lsd (small case) diff and need to start the "swap". Ideally I would like to go w/ the z3m rear sub frame section since it will gain me 5 lug, better half shafts AND much better breaks.

    I'm dragging ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What gear ratio do I want w/ a e30 and a m50 swap??? There is a really good chance that I will go turbo too....

    Help please

What transmission do you plan on using? That is your driving factor.

3.46 works well with a E36 Getrag or ZF also. It's only affects rpms by 200 at standard 75 MPH.

if u can, go for the ZF off an e36. don't quote me for this but i think they r more reliable then the getrags. u should use a 3.46 or 3.25, but some people even go 2.93 or 2.79. i run a 3.25 on my s52 and its simply amazing!!!

Plans for the car are on the "SPORT" side, as I allready have Koni SA's, H&R's, Z3 rack, etc. I haven't had to deal w/ TB's on the vert cause of the M42 w/ chain. I dont know "joey's" car off the top of my head

for sportiness, i'd definitely say get the e36 ZF with a 3.25 lsd. this way u will have long enough gears, while still keeping plenty of torque off the line :pimp:

Do the getrag tranny, i am not going with this choice since i had all the parts already but i still might change. This is a beautiful tranny and the cost will be less.

What Getrag? E30 or E36? E36 units suffer fro a multiple maladies.
