Anyone had experiences with various engine mounts?

... noise and vibrations associated with them?

I am running the black rubber cylindrical mounts (i think they are both pass side e28 m5 mounts) with a 5mm washer under the driver side mount.
I wonder if bmw had a strong reason for going with different mounts on different sides on the e28m5 (one green on driver, and this cylindrical one on pass) as the stiffer one is on the "torque" side.
Also what is the difference in height of the mounts? and what you guys have done to make sure everything clears?

My ride is friggin noisy and i'd love to quiet it down a bit (us S50 here) thus looking for opinions.

I am gonna change tranny mounts for e36 stockers sometime this weekend, but i have a slight suspicion that they are not gonna resolve all my drivetrain noise problems

    Thanks
    Alex

I am using two E28 M5 drivers side mounts on my euro 3.2 install (3/8th inch ABS spacer to clear the euro headers). They look like the green ones, but they are powder blue. I am also using the Rouge Engineering re-inforced transmission mounts (no aluminum cups).

I am curious to see how the vibration compares to my other swap which used the E28 green mounts with AKG 320i transmission mounts w/ aluminum cups. Everything would buzz in the car at idle.

i have green e28 engine mounts and 320i trans mounts with AKG cups too. I don't really have any vibrations.

Are you guys sure you've reassembled your driveshaft properly according to the factory balance marks? Otherwise for a while my intake manifold was touching my brake booster, that make wicked vibrations, fixed that though...

my driveshaft never was apart (98 m3 shaft)

my problem is not vibrations - it's the buzzing, gurgling, whining noise that pisses me off. As soon as i press clutch in, all those noises are gone and engine just idles quietly.
I wanted to try e21 tranny mounts, but decided to go extreme comfy with e36 stockers for now, just to feel the difference (plus they are cheap)

My car makes a similar noise and when I push the clutch in, it too goes away.

I originally had the e28 cylindrical engine mounts also. Changed to e28 M5 green ones. No difference in the noise.

I think it's the transmission input shaft bearing or the throwout bearing, not the engine that's making the noise.

While the 285 transmission in my e28 M5 was being rebuilt, I installed a 265 that I bought from Jim Blanton. It made the same noise. When I questioned him about it, he said it was the input shaft bearing but couldn't explain why it was making noise in a transmission he'd just rebuilt.

When I got my 285 back and put it in - no more noise.

Why I'm having that noise (rattle) now when it's the same transmission that was in the car before the swap and it was silent, I don't know.

^^ what tranny mounts do you have?, you know overtightenning mounts can make it noisy (spec is 16lb/ft barely tight)
my throw out bearing is new, tranny is used from 98 m3.
