    O2 sensor questions

    Fellas,

I have a couple questions about the O2 sensor...

    1. I dont suppose you can do the "Ford" O2 sensor trick on an OBDI S52 like you can with an M20?

    2. Is location of the O2 sensor critical? My project car is an E30M3. I bought a VSR center section (cat pipe). It does not come with an O2 sensor bung because the S14's sensor is at the end of the header. Ideally, where should the sensor be placed? How far downstream from the head? Does it matter?

    Thanks,

    kr

i would put it right where the two pipes cross/merge and have that as close to the exhuast manifold/headers as you can so the sensors heater isn't on all the time.

can the sensor "feel" how hot it is? and draw less current if it's hot?

i am using bosch o2 sensor from ford mustang (just splice the wires) with good results on s50, so you are good there.

it can't "feel" how hot it is, but when you start your car when cold, there is a heating element in the sensor that comes on and gets up to a certain temperature, not sure if it can come one and turn off and come back on though.

I know the stock e34 and im sure the e36 sensors were pretty far back compared to the stock m20 e30's. Im not sure it matter much as the whole exhaust before the cats is pretty hot.
