    Drive shaft question:

My drive shaft is short by 1/4 inch. Did anyone have this problem?

    This is what I have.

    89 E30
    S52, ZF Tranny
    E30 M3 drive shaft

    Is there a thicker guibo?

    Thanks,

The s52 Guibo is way more bad ass than the normal e30 ones. Get that and figure out how to adjust the shaft and youll be all set.

Sounds like a problem with the Guibo.

Also - try loosening the 23mm (??) nut on the drive shaft and extending it.

I had the same problem with my M52 / ZF swap.

        PS - I'm using an E36 328 driveshaft.

              I have the same setup.

In the middle there is an adjustable collar, its like 45mm or something huge like that. Loosen that and you can pull the two halves out to make it longer. Do NOT separate them. Its a good idea to mark the two halves to if they come apart you can put it back together exactly like it was.

Why cant you seperate them? :loco:

Surely you had to seperate them to put on a new drive shaft support bearing.

You can separate them , but if you don't put it back EXACTLY as it was and not 1 spline off you alter the rotating balance of the shaft. BMW balances them at the factory as one piece, and sometimes you can still see the white dot balance marks on each section if you goofed and didn't mark it.

which part of the island do you live? i'm in the kaimuki area.

equate975, that 45mm collar that we unscrew, it's just to cover the spindle right?

living in kahala. close by! sushi, im pretty sure you dont need to unscrew that huge collar, you just need to pull the two pieces apart slowly. it wont seem like its moving but it is. just be careful as others have said, if it comes apart and its not marked you might as well get it rebalanced. do you have your e30 driveshaft? have you tried the fitment with that one?

No, but I think I got it to fit.

                        Thanks!
