    CODE function

to those of you who have the nice OBC with the CODE function what wire in the s50 harness did you use to retain the code function?

i was contemplating cutting power to the computer via the power line coming right off the distrobution block but i wasnt sure if that CODE cutout could take the amperage... ideas? or should i just do the generic fuel cut from the fuel pump relay

i believe its possible to hook up the code, you need to locate the wires for the fuel pump and ignition . i did this mod for a friends e30m20, one of the early models that didnt have provision for the obc and code
on the m20 there where 3 wires but i cant recall the third wire, it could have been a gnd signal

anyways, the code works like an off-on relay, when not activated, its on, when acitivated, its off, so wires going from fuel pump/ignition to dme would function as normal when code is not activated and only get cut-off when it is

my current code is not hooked up to the m50 as i hardly even use it, have an aftermarket alarm that takes care of everything

      good luck

yeah... its the little plug in the engine bay that kinda looks like a sensor sticking into the firewall i believe... just not sure what is the best wire to hook up to it... i was looking for the s50 signal wire that tells the computer to turn on but i cant seem to find the color of it...

what i would like to do it to cut all power to the engine harness which would be easy howeve im just not sure of the amp load would blow th obc switch

If you figure out if the CODE function can ground a relay, you can hook up a relay, with 30 and 87(a) splitting the 85 circut on the MAIN engine relay, and 86 on your new CODE relay, to +12 volts, and 85 to the code function wire

That way, when the code is enabled, then the relay would click, and disable the turn on of the main relay.

you would need a 5-pin bosch relay, with an 87 and 87a output.
edit: If the code function supplied 12v, then it would have to be differentThe splitting of the main relay 85 circut would be 30 to 87, instead of 87aThat would require just a standard 4 pin relay

agreed, but for the m50 engine management, you will need to cut both fuel and ignition, it may have adverse effects on the engine if you didnt
            cut it proper
or maybe just cut the main power to the dme to disable it , via another independant relay
