understeer? never had a problem. you just need an adjustable rear bar.

turbo m42? (disclaimer: now i know nothing about turbo cars) i know you can super charge them, but a turbo w/o knock sensors sounds dangerous. my m42 just developed some noise. not sure what to do. i do want to keep the m42..... but.... the power is sooooo addictive. can the m42 actually get some torque? i would be VERY interested.

    cheers, jason

    http://www.bimmerforums.com/engine_faq/

    m42 is 34lb lighter than s14

US m50/s50 is around 300lb and alu blocked is 260lb

one more thing you guys have to keep in mind is that straight6 stick out past the front axel, which is detrimental for handling.

I am kind of tired of my s50e30's heavy nose understeer at autox's and track, so i've been toying with idea of a turbo'ed M42 instead.

Ya, and it even has VADERs, which are more dense than depleted uranium. I think a 318is weighs right around 2600 stock.

there's no doubt about it. i could feel a difference on turnin by removing the a/c comp. 20# cantilevered over the front axil. yes, it does make a difference if you track a car.

I can get you a FRP race weight hood that weighs around 7lbs, but you'll need hood pins. One that uses the stock mounts will weigh around 12-15lbs.

I'll weigh my 318is (S50B32 / steel control arms / coilovers / no AC) on my corner balance scales and report back.

I believe the MaShaw hoods weigh like 10-12lbs and bolt up to the hinges .

    started a topic e30 m52 s14 s50 weight comparisons

    e30 m52 s14 s50 weight comparisons

ive always wondered. how bad are they? i could feel the weight on my e30s52m3, but ive never really known.

we borrowed some corner scales, and, well, we just couldnt resist. weight comparison

    88e30m3, euro s50b32, no a/c, no driver.
full tank of gas, no weight reduction, stock seats, full interior.
    2846# 54.3%f 45.7%r

    91e30 318is, aluminum m52 2.8, no ac, no driver.
full tank of gas, no weight reduction, vader seats, full interior.
    2684# 53.4%f 46.7%r

    90e30 325i, s50, no ac, no driver.
full tank of gas, no weight reduction ((still has trunk sound deadening), light floor mount seats, full interior.
    2844# 52.3%f 47.3%r

88e30m3 s14, no ac, no driver.
full tank of gas, a/n cf, floor mount fixed back seats, no rear seats, roll bar.
    2810# 51.2%f 48.8%r

i found it suprizing how different the cars "feel" vs. what the scales said. so, how much does a cf hood weigh?

    cheers, jason
