understeer? never had a problem. you just need an adjustable rear bar.
turbo m42? (disclaimer: now i know nothing about turbo cars) i know you can super charge them, but a turbo w/o knock sensors sounds dangerous. my m42 just developed some noise. not sure what to do. i do want to keep the m42..... but.... the power is sooooo addictive. can the m42 actually get some torque? i would be VERY interested.

m42 is 34lb lighter than s14
US m50/s50 is around 300lb and alu blocked is 260lb
one more thing you guys have to keep in mind is that straight6 stick out past the front axel, which is detrimental for handling.
I am kind of tired of my s50e30's heavy nose understeer at autox's and track, so i've been toying with idea of a turbo'ed M42 instead.Leave a comment:

Ya, and it even has VADERs, which are more dense than depleted uranium. I think a 318is weighs right around 2600 stock.Leave a comment:

there's no doubt about it. i could feel a difference on turnin by removing the a/c comp. 20# cantilevered over the front axil. yes, it does make a difference if you track a car.
now i really want to weigh my stock m42 318is....it "feels" better / lighter than my s14'd m3. i would bet its lighter in the nose than an s14 m3 by at least 40#. anyone with some data???
160# to the heaviest pig in the lot...(my car.)

The scales say you have an additional 107lbs on your front axle compared to a s14 e30m3. Thats probably what youre feeling.Leave a comment:

It's funny that the 318 with the aluminum block is close to 200 pounds lighter than the rest.Leave a comment:

I can get you a FRP race weight hood that weighs around 7lbs, but you'll need hood pins. One that uses the stock mounts will weigh around 12-15lbs.
I'll weigh my 318is (S50B32 / steel control arms / coilovers / no AC) on my corner balance scales and report back.Leave a comment:

Great thread Jason , this is really good info to have .
Im guessing since your M3's are 88's that they are running the steel control arms ?
Also the 325i is a 2-door or 4-door ?
I believe the MaShaw hoods weigh like 10-12lbs and bolt up to the hinges .Leave a comment:

i found it suprizing how different the cars "feel" vs. what the scales said. so, how much does a cf hood weigh?
