    M50 Upper tensioner

    Hey there.

Does anyone post a pic of how the top belt tensioner goes on in an M50? I have a 95 e34 that i recieved with all the accessories taken off and i just cant seem to figure out how the top tensioner even mounts. Im starting to think I'm missing some bracket somewhere..

    Thanks in advance!

hehe yes all the pictures that i have found so far have either the radiator hose or alternator cooling ducting in the way.. I can see the pulley.. but i just cant figure out how it mounts in relation to the alternator etc. I simply dont have enough holes.

Are you talking about the dummy tensioner that is to the left of the alternator?

This is the part im trying to find a place for:

            http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...99&hg=11&fg=18

The engine already has that pulley in the middle, is that the only tensioner there should be?

That idler pulley should just bolt in to the oil filter housing.

Heh. I bought the engine as a complete but parted package from the junkyard.. and one of the items is the assembled #2,4,8 device. A similar tensioner is on the other side of the engine acting as the tensioner for the A/C compressor. Going by the RealOEM diagram, this one seems like it is the tensioner for the alternator belt.. i just cant really place it anywhere. It is possible that they just gave me it but it doesnt really go anywhere.. that's why i need a clear pic or diagram to figure out what im doing with it..

The one that is already on the engine looks like this:

                    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...99&hg=11&fg=18

Can i conclude that the other one is just an extra piece that doesnt co anywhere?

The tensioner setup in the 2nd picture is a spring type, the first one is a hydraulic tensioner. Only one is needed.
