Is your CEL on? That's a very bad sign, if it's actually pinging/knocking.

I will scan it in the am and check for codes . The car runs perfectly no idle or accel issues just pings when I really get on it hard in the higher rpm's .

Bad gas? Lots of carbon on the pistons? Did you take the motor apart at all?

What grade of fuel are you using? Turner/JC chips require 94. Also if you boot the motor at low RPM, it will ping with anything but 94.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

When I had the intake off I checked the back sides of the valves and they looked as if they had never been used . I assume carbon is not the issue . I will try 94 if I can find it in CT I seem to remember only 93 . Will repost back thanks again .

Does canada use RON for all measurements? I am pretty sure Turner chips are tuned for 91 R+M/2

Turner tunes for what you want. Some chips are 93 and some are 91.

naw I'm fairly certain Canada uses R+M/2 as well.

Petro-Canada locations across Canada offer fuel, including gas and diesel; stores with food and drinks; soft touch and touchless car washes; and our Petro-Points program. Find a gas station or Petro-Canada car wash locations near you.

Turner contact (Doug?) told me that chip should be good for both 91 and 93, he actually told me the tune should adjust to the grade i am using (not sure what he meant exactly)

i know some people had problems with 24#, HFM tune for S50 (apparently there were some higher compression s50s made), not S52.

if motor was not apart, do a seafoam cleaning and verify your fuel pressure is ok (not enough pressure == running lean)

yep, you really have to up the octane ratings to eliminate all that pinging

it sounds like shit when you try getting on the hwy but it will decrease when you use octane booster. however, careful, try to avoid varying your octane too much between tanks because that will lead to nasty carbon buildup.

just filled it with 93 12.5 gallons no real change except it seems to only do it once it gets warmed up just under 1/2 on the guage .

Is the stock m50 regulator enough ? or is m3 s50 a different unit more psi ?

Oh ya and now my P.S is getting noisy when hot 2 days in a row . e36 pump with e30 rack .

                          Hi Ericz

It looks like you are either running too much timing or not enough fuel. Do you run a wideband O2 sensor to monitor combustion?

I am running a factory e34 bosch 02 sensor obd 1 s52 with obd 2 factory cat from an m3. Only monitoring one side ? bot from what I have read this is OK to do .

Your O2 sensor and knock sensors and MAF are all suspect.

Chips don't adjust anything based on octane. If it detects knock events, it pulls timing. It then puts it back, until it detects more knock events. No permanent or temporary "correction" factor is applied to prevent knock. (unlike O2 sensor feedback)
