as much as you rig your car to tow. you'll probably rip the frame off the e30 before you max out your engine's towing capacity

      Towing

The rules for towing I've always used is no more than 60% of the gross towing weight behind you including the trailer !! Double axle trailer (4 wheels) is also a big Plus !! joe

I'd be using a double axle trailer, but I'd be interested in knowing if an M50 can tow an e30 on top of that trailer.

An M50 certainly can, but it'll need to be installed in some sort of truck.

im sure the m50 can pull it... just not in the e30 body.

You'd just need some low gears. :) [and a hitch that won't rip off of course]

that's my point. It's not the power of the motor that we doubt, it's the chassis. The e30 was not meant to trailer a car unless you do some serious reinforcement work.

Think about all those midsize pickups from the 70's and 80's. They didn't have much power and can tow all day long, they were just built for it. They don't go fast with the trailer either.

But seriously, if you were talking 200 lbs or so, fine. If you want to tow a car, buy a van, like a chevy Astro. Preferrably M50 powered...

Don't forget brakes. A big part of towing is gearing and braking. e30 brakes are definately not set up to tow.

Does the e30 even have a wire harness set up for towing? You probably have to build your own.
