    hfm 3.5 questions concerns

Ok many of you know I have been battling a ping issue . I had a thought could the EBAY 3.5 hfm I bought on ebay NIB for a 1/3 of the price of others be a bootleg or a regular one with only a larger housing . I just swapped a stock size s50 unit into the car and took it for a ride and I have noticed no difference in the cars performance or the Pinging . I removed the sensor itself from the housing on the 3.5 and it has no numbers on it to verify . Would this cause a ping if it truly is a regular one in a large body ? Would you try the real thing to rule this ? out . THANKS !

How much did you pay for it? I don't think I've heard of a fake 540 HFM before!

Things I would look at if I had knock (pinging) issues, in no particular order:

      - Injectors functioning properly: delivering enough fuel? Sized properly?
      - Plugs: Are they in good shape? Cracked insulators can be a source of pre-ignition. Are the the right temp range?
      - Timing: what is the total advance vs. stock with your chip?
      - Knock sensor: functioning properly?
      - Dyno / Logging Wideband O2: I would be curious to see what my AFR's looked like.
      - HFM: Doubt it's faulty since the stock size still leads to pinging.

Sensor and housing are both different.

                on housing rf 280 218 800
on sensor no # at all .

I pulled the sensor out of a 3" and it clearly reads bosch on the sensor itself unlike the unit I have . I pulled the trigger on a new unit from the dealer the 3.5 euro unit. I will let you know if this corrects the issue of adds any performance . I smell a rat !

if you have a euro hfm and dont have a special chip specifically for it your car will run like crap

If you're still pinging on a real 3" hfm, wouldn't you figure the HFM is fine?

Are you sure your chip is for a 3.5" HFM? You gave the other stats, but not that.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Yes it's the chip tuned for 3.5hfm 24lbs and it's from turner . I am just ruling things out . I am thinking it's a poor quality hfm I know it's not a bosch unit . There was no change in the car form the 3" to the 3.5" I currently have . I am also going to get a 506 dme and try that with stock chip and stock injectors and the 3" hfm .

Eric maybe you ought to take a short ride out to Bridgewater and borrow Beir's HFM and ECU to see if it's truely the issue or does someone else have the parts you need nearby?
