E36 M3 trans with 3.25 diff = this would give me more economy than torque??? :S
These two options are roughly equivalent.

I am about to put in a 3.73 and I have an e36 trans. I decided I want to take advantage of the peaky nature of my motor pre-turbo.

Gear Mph per 1000 RPM Mph @7000 RPM Mph @7000 RPM
      --------------------------------------------------------
      1 4.25 30
      2 7.13 50
      3 10.72 75
      4 14.56 102
      5 17.91 125

That's ZF tranny with 4.1 diff and 245/45/16 tires...congradulations, 1st gear barely exists.

Wow... my 3rd goes to almost 95 with a 3.25. I can't imagine gears that short.

I had the open 4.10 leftover from the auto trans for the first month and first was topped out at ~ 20mph. Damn torquey and fun, just redline in 5th @90 was a bit much.

            I got a 3.25 LSd out of a E28.

              haha

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
