    tachometer calibration how to check

Does anyone know a way I can get an accurate reading on my S52 and compare it to the tach reading . I want to know how close it may be . Then I want to redyno my car as I think the tech was backing off to soon and it may have had more in it . Thanks .

Assuming you installed a 6 cylinder coding plug, it reads 7/8 low. Full scale on a six cylinder cluster is 7k. The M3 cluster is 8k. When it reads 8k, you are actually at around 7k rpm.

I think there's a Dakota Digital tach signal box that you can wire into the tach signal at the C101 or other places it picks up the tach signal. Or you can get the cluster custom geared by a speedometer shop.

      M3 CLUSTER
      6 CYLINDER CODING PLUG
      6 CYLINDER "i" tach face with 7k redline .
I think 7200 is my rev limiter with a turner chip ?

Does the diag. connector have a tach terminal ? I can check it with a tach/dwell meter there ?

there are a ton of different products that can give engine rpm by just clipping an aligator clip onto a plug wire or by sticking something into your cig lighter.

a gtech gives a very acurate rpm readout, if you wanna go all out, and is very simple to set up. you can also search pepboys or the liek for something cheeper and then compare it to your gauge

Is there a pin out of the diagnostic connector for an e34 harness . Thinking if there is a speed signal there I can check my tach nice and easy . I searched for a pin out with no luck .

R3VEngineer a while back made a small device similar to Dakota Digitals but it was specific for our applications.

I don't know if he makes them anymore but IIRC they were like $30. I still need to nab one from him.
