E28 M5 Motor Mount WTFs

I've got the E28 M5 motor mounts (LH gray hexogonal, RH hockey puck)

My RH hockey puck mount looks like it's sitting fine, but my LH mount looks like it needs to move about a half an inch. I've wiggled the sucker to death, and can't get them both to fall into place. Any ideas why I'm so far off?

When I did the swap on a customer car, I used two of the hockey puck mounts. It worked out nicely.

Yup yup, you need to use 2 of the hex ones, or redrill & backweld the subframe for the hockey puck ones AFAIK.

I'm on 2 green hex ones.

doesnt the right side mount go in the outside hole on the arm? i think i remember reading that from the ORCA cd.

Yeah, these guys are right. You have the mount in backwards. The threaded stud goes into the slot in the subframe and the little metal nub goes into the round hole.

Did you guys grind the nubs off of the mounts?

The engineer side of me is thinking: the top stud is centered between the bottom stud and nub. If the mount is flipped so the nub is in the hole, the top stud will still be in the same place.

I'll give it a shot tonight either way...

I mocked up my subframe onto my motor & I ground off the nubs & back welded the old holes & drilled new ones, but my drilled holes were basically where the slots outer openings were.

I just didn't like the amount of metal removed for the old motor mounts - I had the exhaust side mount point totally cracked in 3 directions from that S14 - so I just figured with more torque than the 4 cyl I'd beef up the area.

that mount needs to be rotated 180degrees.

I'm on two green e28 mounts. 3 swaps have all worked just fine with those.

No redrilling necessary, mine is on two hockey pucks with stock slots/tabs.

Picture shows orientation. The spacer is the one provided with ebay headers (didn't need to use it).

No redrilling or grinding of nubs and the mounts fit perfectly.
