after a few of your posts today I have decided i have to go the same route as you on the transmission choice. Now finding that its the same as supra I like the choice even more. but does it run the same ratios? and if not are they compatable for gear swaping?

The first 5 gears have the same ratio as the e36 m3 5speed. 6th is an overdrive.
      1st Gear Ratio 4.23:1
      2nd Gear Ratio 2.51:1
      3rd Gear Ratio 1.67:1
      4th Gear Ratio 1.23:1
      5th Gear Ratio 1.00:1
      6th Gear Ratio 0.83:1

Aeryk--I agree with you in that it is not a good idea to use the 325i Getrag 250 with a 3.0 or 3.2L. A local well-known race shop that has done multiple 3.0/3.2 into E36 318/325's has stopped doing the swap without also using the M3 transmission due to multiple failures.

The G260 from the M20 motors is stronger than the E36 325i transmission.

Matt--I disagree--we're putting these swaps together to drive the cars pretty damn hard, otherwise we'd stick with M42's and M20's. Why not spend the extra bucks to locate a transmission that will handle the power?
          Seems ridiculous not to!

I say go with the 260, but it all depends on rear ratio. a 260 with 3.73:1 works well, If have a numerically lower rear ratio like 2.93 or 3.23 I would definitely go with the zf.

              It's not a power issue, it's a driving style / technique issue.

-I'd rather swap the diff and keep the get260. Ever driven a e36 with a zf? I don't like them.

CORRECTION... I copied the wrong gear chart for the e46m3... the e46 has a 2.53:1 2nd gear. NOT the 2.51:1 listed. sorry for the innconvience.

no WONDER why I pulled a buslength on that 997 GT3RS last night!!! 2.53 2nd gear pulls like A FREIGHT TRAIN!

Damn.......those ratios + the corrected one are pretty badass.

                        Thanks Stu,
My post wasnt to overlook the 260 only to say if someone was going to go with an E36 tranny they might as well do the ZF and feel safer about it especially on S50 and S52 cars.
I only used the 250 to " save money " thinking it would be fine and i got it for like 300 with a driveshaft. If i would have waited i could have gotten a ZF for the same price and not have my car down for such along time.
