I searched around for a while, but couldn't really find a clear answer. I just need to know if my 260 from my '86 es will work with an M50. My car is an 01/86, so I'm pretty sure it has the single mass flywheel, not the double. Can anyone give me a definite answer?

It works. Im running mine. Be sure that you use all of your m20 stuff though. I have an s50 flywheel (basically dual mass m50) and clutch and an m50 starter. I seem to have starter gear mesh issues. Im switching to m20 starter/flywheel to see what that does.
my friends blue e30 has the stock 89i trans with s52 flywheel and clutch with an unknown starter (he was told it was from m54). Somehow this combo worked perfectly for him.Old and improved:

Yep, it'll work Josh. My trans is actually from an '86 eta also.
You'll need to cut the rod and weld it after adjusting the angle 10*, use the M20 flywheel and starter. A good clutch setup to use is Sachs E30 M3 disk and pressure plate. Sport pressure plate and race disk if it's a 3.0 or 3.2L.

my '86 build has the aluminum carrier. I think the only real difference is the reference sensor holes.Old and improved:
