    m52 pistons gone.....options?

So i tore down my m52 and 3 pistons have holes in them and one is dented in...looks like water got in and the piston couldn't compress it so it blew through them....head and valves are fine tho. Question is what are my options...are m52 pistosn unique....can I bore the block to fit s50 pistons???

Get a new motor. The head and valves are probably not fine. The rods are probably not fine also.

If you hydrolocked the first thing to collapse would be your rod.

If there is a hole in the piston itself, it means the mixture in the comb. chamber pre-ignited itself. Better look into your cam-timing before you rebuild...

I got the motor from a guy for free for removing it for him. I have the head all cleaned and this is not my first time to build ane ngien like this (built an s50 prior that had a small crack in the combustion chamber.

3 rear pistons have the holes.... I don't believe this guy used nitrous but the PO might have....its an auto tho so I dunno why.

From all I can see the Head is fine tho....

these heads are sooo prone to cracking, that i would be extremely shocked if the head was good...you should have a machine shop pressure check it.

Gonna have it pressure tested but yeah...I know what you mean...but I can see no damage....whats weird is usually the combustion chambers that leak coolant or water are completely clean or cleaner....on this engine the ones with the broke pistons where blacker and more carboned....weird....

could have been problems with the injector wiring or ecu or something causing that bank to run super lean and melt the holes....i dunno weirder things have happened.

I have 6 rods and 6 pistons from 98 z3 2.8 with under 60k miles if you wanna rebuild this one.
