Just double checked your recommendation against ETM and hooked it up as you recommended - Diagnostic port is now working fine.

    Thanks!

    .

leo - power ("start/run") comes from the 95e36m3 fuse 26 to x20pin22 (grn/wht) to energize the diagnostic port. im guessing at your c101/x20 connector you did not energize pin22 on the x20. e30's have power ("start/run") from fuse 9 to c101pin6 to e30 diagnostic port / e30 o2heater. i have seen the same wire/wire color/function at the c101 for 91m42is, 90i, 88is, 90m, 88m, 86es.....have not checked all the diagrams, but i feel confident that wire did not change through the production years. so.....your e30 c101pin6 (grn/yel or grn/wht) and e36 x20pin22 (grn/wht) are both dangling...........hook em up.

    cheers, jason

PIN 12 IS NOT POWER......its the charge indicator light. its the BLUE wire that goes from the alternator (through the x20/c101) and goes to your dash......that little battery light that is on your dash.....same wire. please dont go energizing anything without LOOKING at what the function of the wire is AND understanding what it does.

dont want to sound like a jerk, hope you understand....i just hate missinformation getting spread around.

color of wire? amount of voltage?

    cheers, jason
    Jason,
That print out was for 95M3.
I don't think you're a jerk and I'm not trying to missinform anyone. I am trying to find out what is wrong with my diag. plug which is similar to the issue originally discussed here.

I just checked the pins I mention above on my car and for some reason I don't have ignition switch power to pin 16.
If you have any ideas of why it is missing power there or if I can just jump "switchable" voltage there - please share.

    Regards,
    Leo.

The Peake code reader seems to work now. It worked to reset my oil and inspection lights. It scanned for codes and came up with nothing. I tried it on my m3 and all I got was flashing "E" for error, but it worked fine with a number of other BMW's that I have tried it on. It flashed no codes on my car, although it clearly has some issues right now

That is wierd that pin 1 was powered. It is Tach. signal isn't it?

Do you still having problems reading the codes? Do you know if you have codes? Perhaps check engine is on?

Pin 11 is empty on my harness. I am not planning on adding a jumper pin to Pin 11, my code reader seems to be working just fine now that 16 has power too

So are you planing on puting another jumper to pin 11?

With the key in the "ON" position Pins 1, 14, 16 should all have power. Once I confirmed that these pins had power on my harness the code reader works. Finally reset my inspection light (after 2 years).

Unfortunately my car is not sending any fault codes, and it still runs like shit. So much for it pointing me in the right direction.
Did you run "jumpers" to the wires corresponding to the above mentioned pins or you fixed something at c101/x20 connection?

I was under the impression that when you connect pin 17 on x20 it should power up Diag. Plug...??? I didn't find any other pins on x20 that would power diagnostic connector.
