    need help with s50 converion....must read

    hey guys iv been hearing great things about the s50 conversion.... i am very interested in doing this swap but the thing is i live in Australia and you wouldnt belive how much there asking for a s50 engine with gearbox.... i got a few quotes and wreckers are asking between 12-15 thousand just for the engine and gearbox....yes thats right 12-15 thousand...its rediculas and im after some help plz guys

      im not sure......iv been hearing that u can pick up a e36 complete m3 for 5k from japan...but you cannot compliance them soooo that means i can strip the whole car and uses its parts.... how much does a s50 engine and box go for in your areas

          Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would guess that an Australian S50 would be a "euro" motor as opposed to an S50B30US, which is basically just a bigger M50 with better cams. I don't think you can get a euro S50 for $3k here in the US.

            Why not look into doing an M50 swap? Bore it out, do cams and some boltons, that should make some good power no?

              Although i dont know which version was used in Australia Euro to US S50s are a lot different.

              Euro had ITBs and higher compression ratio and performed 286 and 321 hp (3.0 and 3.2 liter) instead of the 240 hp of the US version.

              Dont know the system used to measure the output though (SAE or DIN).

                    Don't buy a motor from japan. Cars are so expensive to have there people don't do the maintenance. If you get a motor from there it will probably come with the factory oil in it lol.

                    Do you know anyone in the military? They might be able to crate one over for you.
