    Another tach question

Simply stated, If I use a six cylinder coding plug and a 325i tach, my rpm's should be pretty close after the swap, right?

When I researched this a few months ago, that's the conclusion I came up with. I think the only time you would need to use a different coding plug is if you're changing to an M3 cluster. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

            m20"i" clusters - change nothing
m20 "e" clusters - change to "i" tach and "i" coding plug, or just replace cluster.
m42 clusters - change to "i" coding plug
m14 clusters - change to "i" coding plug and change tach faceplate, or buy "inline" signal modifier. search other threads as its discussed in depth.

            cheers, jason

Going from M42 to M3 cluster what would I need?

If you're going to use an e30 m3 cluster, then you need to swap the tach section and faceplate from an "i" - being careful not to damage the red e30 m3 needle. Or, you can purchase my electronic rpm converter which converts the 6 cyl tach signal down a 4 cyl signal which lets you keep the e30 m3 tach.
