    which 3.25 LSD to use

    besides what ive read, the e28 and mcoupe, which differentials can you use for the zf tranny?

    3.25 diff ..

    what models swap in?


    and can someone shed some light on the flange swap?

    is this the output flanges? how difficult is this?

    good source to find them and a reasonable price?

    The output flanges pop right out with a prybar or a screwdriver, or if you have strong fingers, by hand.

    Best place to find 'em is probably your local boneyard. That way you can save on shipping.

        Or you can use the ones currently installed on the diff in your car.

          Um, I meant the best place to buy a diff is probably a salvage yard. But I could totally see why you thought I meant, the best place to buy output flanges is the boneyard.

          Anyway I'm pretty sure the S3.25 came on the E28 535i, auto and manual. Not sure what else. Maybe an E24 6er? I dunno. You're probably gonna have to crawl underneath the car and check the diff tag.

                Eh, up here in the northeast, you'll usually find the diff bolts are chemically welded to the subframe. After using a can of PB Blaster, swearing, a hammer and 19mm wrench, you might get the top bolts free. Also, while hammering, you'll probably cause at least 1 lb of rust flakes and sand to fall down, most of which will fall on your face. You'd punch the bottom of the car, but then it might fall on top of you, or your fist might go through the rusted trunk floor. Then there are 12 flange bolts, the diff ear bolt, and the driveshaft locknuts, which are so seized, you wonder why you've been under this car for an hour.

                    Get a 19mm swivel headed ratcheting wrench. And a couple really long straight 19mm wrenches.

                      Yeah, every now and then you'll find a car that hasn't been accosted by road salt. It's rare. But these cars are like the holy grail. You must spend all weekend taking all of the good parts, otherwise such an opportunity will never arise again.

                      I'm still hurting that I didn't pull a S3.73 from this MINT zinno 87 325is automatic, light tap in the front.
