    Do people use the OEM oil cooler with thier swap?

    I know there is no 'direct fit' for the OEM e30 oil cooler, but when doing the 24v swap, does anybody plumb the OEM cooler into their system? I'm going to be boosted, so I think it would help greatly with oil temps.

    I'm thinking:
    Filter->Cooler->Turbo->Motor

    It would probably be just as easy to run a nice aftermarket cooler that will probably work much better.

      That won't work anyway. Try running an oil coolers worth of oil through a turbo and all your oil is going to leak out your exhaust. If you run a turbo's worth of oil through an oil cooler, it won't be enough volume to effect your oil temps at all.

        I am. I am using a modified S52 (MZ3) housing with -10AN lines to the original oil cooler.

          You might start with an oil temp gauge first and see how it goes. Mine usually hovers around 205 - 215 deg F.

            Factory oil cooler w/24v

            On my builtup s52 swap into 88'is I used the euro filter housing and ran #10 AN lines to OE cooler. I also have the M3 oil gadge which shows 180-190F running down road, in Florida traffic maybe 210F.. I found it lowered 20F by running the OE cooler ,After market cooler might work better but my OE cooler fits very nicely . Just Do it !

              ORME Bros.- http://www.ormebrothers.com/ - has metric to AN fittings (M18 Female to AN10 Male) that allow direct attachment to the cooler. No need to mess around with a hydraulic shop adapting the stock lines.
