    M50...vanos or NV...m3 cams?

Hey...Im getting interested in swapping.....Im tired of crappy drivers w/ more hp passing me at the track.

    Re m50's.....

    are any years best?....

    V or NV?

has any one tried the m3 cams in theirs?......its supposedly good for 225 hp or so w/ the proper software....

I have M3 cams. Very nice mod, but yes, you need software. I made a pull on stock software... it was terrible.

Not sure about 225hp... I am getting 185 at the wheels, which is pretty weak actually. I think my cam timing is off a bit. I would guess 195-200 at the wheels would be more typical.

We have chips for M50 w/ S50 cams on the site. Let me know if you have any questions.

Edit: I just realized you're asking about swapping the motor, not just the cams. Use a vanos motor or don't bother. A lot of people will tell you to use an M motor or don't bother, but I don't agree with that.

yeah use the vanos motor. I have one out of a 94' 325i but it doesn't really matter which you get it out of. Its easier to find them out of a 3 but you have to change the oil pan. But w/ a 5er you have to change the arms and the harness is shorter...

I prefer the 3 24v but its all about what you would rather change to put it in. My car has the stock cams for now, looking for some group n's ;) But I am swaping another e30 to 24v in a month or so and it will have the s50 cams. It will be running off Korman software as does mine.

      Hope that helps

        swap

Good to see responses from some guys " in the know"......thanks!!!!!

185 at the wheels is like 30- 40 over a stock m20.....sounds good enough to start.

Should I look at s 50(obd 1) cams only, or are obd2 s52 cams fine as well?...

You can use s52 cams in a m52 directly but w/ a m50 you need the cam trays as well. So yes they will work in an m50.
