Strange problem....

So, I took out my S14, tranny, harness, and ECU. I'm getting ready to put in my S50 with standalone.

The problem is that I am not getting any power to my windows, sunroof, heater fan, OBC, and a couple other things. So, when I turn the key to position #1, nothing really happens. When I turn it to #2, the check panel lights up, the fuel gauge goes up, and that's about it. Nothing else works.

I do realize the ECU and engine harness are out of the car, but I didn't think that would have an affect on my 'accessories'. So is there some relay that's not getting powered up that should be? Thanks

Yes, it is a problem with the K5 and K7 relays not being connected to your starter's 30h lug (88+ M3), or your starter's 50 lug (early production M3).

K5 and K7 unload the electrical system when the ignition is turned to the START position. In the RUN position, where your power windows and blower motor would ordinarily work, terminal 85 on both K5 and K7 are grounded through the starter. In the START position, the 85s are hot and the relays are de-energized.

For a temporary solution, if you want to power up the windows so you can roll them down, ground the K5/K7 through C101 pin 15 for late cars, and C101 pin 18 for early cars.

If you are worried about the power windows and blower fan etc. working when you finally throw in the S50, then don't worry. Once you get the engine in there and the starter hooked up, everything should be hunky-dory once again.

freds right on the money. for very early 87m3 cars, starter and trigger wire is absent. very early 87m3's use the ignition "start request signal" for the k7/k5 unloader signal.

okay. so I tried this same thing. I grounded pin 15 through tab 85 on k7 and one window went up and then it stopped working. do I need to use k5 as well as k7?
