I have a non-vanos m50 in my car right now with a m52 2.8 bottom end. I also have the m52 vanos head lying around, is it worth swapping out? Right now I have all the 92 OBD1 electronics including the 92 only airflow meter. How hard would it be to change everything over? If I where to swap heads, what kind of gains would I see with s52 cams? Are there any cam options at all if I where to keep the non-vanos head or would I have to spend 1200 dollars on shrick cams.

You're going to need a 93 - 95 Vanos engine harness, your NV one won't work. You would see a 15 - 20ish? HP increase with the s52 cams in a m52. The most popular cam option for NV motors is move the exhaust cam to the intake side, and only get one Schrick cam for the exhaust. I'd personally just swap the Vanos head with the s52 cams. -
Shit, you don't even have to swap the heads. Pull the cams/camtrays out. Put the M52 ones in and slap the M52 Vanos plate on the front, run the oil line, and have at it.My 2.9L Build!
