    So I raced a friend's '95 E36M3 Dinan SC

I am suprised that I kept up with him....I think the Dinan SC only puts out 300HP at the crank

    His mods:
3.0 S50 motor, plus headers, Dinan S/C 6-7psi with software

    My mods:
E30M3 with S50 motor, 540HFM, E34M5 Clutch, UUC FW, TMS Chip, 3.25 LSD
Probably making 270 at the crank

Just nice to know....I guess true what they say about those Dinan S/C Stage 1 Kits, I think they only give you 60HP, and why I see many E36 owners are selling them

I have 240HP just on the S50 motor alone I have on the car + goodies
Forgot to mention K & N Intake too

Why not? Maybe you are asking at the wheels instead?

240 for the motor + 20 for the chip + 10 for the intake.

That's what we call the dinan method.

intake, hfm and chip will not give an s50 270, u need atleast injectors and headers on top of that to make those numbers...but still glad to see u kept up...off roll u'd prolly fair much better

I think a 3.0L with 540 HFM, injectors, and a chip designed for the combo gets you around 220 Dynojet whp, which is close to 260 crank hp?

              I had a 95 M3 with 223 RWHP bone stock which = ~270 HP.

Before I did the HFM, spoke to AA and TMS, injectors 24 lbs are not necessary unless cams are upgraded....headers - with the cost of good headers and get maybe 3-5 whp max, I decided not to, thought keeping an "M" factory header was fine

From Eurotuner Magazine, nice article to read where I based some numbers from

My estimated numbers by upgrades @ crank, conservatively

                Base - 240 HP
                540 HFM/CAI - 15 HP (spent $ 200)
                TMS CHIP - 15 HP ($250)
                BORLA EXHAUST - 5 HP ($400)
MAGNAFLOW DUAL FREE FLOW CAT - N/A
                ------------------------------------------ = 275 HP
                For under $1000, not bad

Highest RPM peak is likely between 5-5,500 rpm's
Cost of cams + other parts needed - will run you $ 2,500 including labor, for the power you get --- I said nahhhh:)

But it doesn't work that way. You can't add the HP gains individually. using your numbers CAI +15 and a chip +15 individually doesn't mean a CAI + chip = +30. Besides typically the max gain is somewhere else is the rev range while the gain at the peak maybe more on the order of 5hp. OTOH, the area under the curve is what rules anyways so any gain is an improvement.

Not to memtion the fact that claiming that 14 year old S50 is still pumping out a healthy 240 is a bit optimistic to say the least .

The S50 I am putting in my E30 from my dead IP race car put out 245/223 the the wheels with schrick cams/hfm/intake/aa headers & race exhaust/24#inj/custom aa chip. For the E30 I will be going with ebay headers and selling the aa's.

For the record, my engine has 32,000 miles upon install in Jan 07, have added about 1000 miles since @ 33,000 miles it runs like a champ

Yup, bolt-ons for this E36 M3 3.0 motor- the engine responds very well to...glad to know you're getting good numbers too - the S50 rocks on mods

I bought my E36 M3 from a 16 yr. old girl when it had 122k miles on it. It compression tested all cyliniders within 15psi and leak down was normal. This is on an early build 95 M3 (weak valve retainers). I then freshened up the head and added all the power mods. These engines are bulletproof.
