cool cool. The 1999 328iC and 328is were E36s, and as a result, had the M52. So if it came from a 1999 328i four door, it's definitely a M52TU.

hmm, not sure if it came from a 2 or 4 door. Is there any markings on the block or head that would tell me which it is?

Well if the block is cast iron, it is an M52. If it is aluminum, it is an M52TU.

If there is double vanos on the front of the engine, it's an M52TU. Also, check the back of the head for the VIN and punch in the last 7 digits into Realoem. That'll tell you for certain what it is.

I think it's cast aluminum, no vin on the back of the head though. What does the double vanos look like, any pics?

                      Pics are back up .

The single Vanos has the one bump in front of the head .

While the double Vanos has no bump .

Also identifiable by the different intake runner designs .

hard to tell, I don't have the intake. any pics with the intake off, maybe of the vanos it's self? Thanks by the way, I didn't think it would be this difficult to id this motor.

he did post a pic of the differences in single vanos and dual vanos. notice in the first pic there is one bump in the front of the valve cover(closest to the radiator). and then the second picture there is no lump, its just equal all across.

ok, looks like I have the double vanos, thanks for the help! I assume many parts are interchangable with the M52?
