    OBD1 Coolant hose confusion

    I'm in the process of converting an S52 to OBD1 and I'm wondering about the need to use the S50 coolant hose - the (4) ended hose that connects the water pump/throttle body/expansion tank.....
    Turner Motorsports sells the adaptor for converting the water pump to the barbed fitting for this hose.
    My question is what is the advantage of converting to this hose? It appears the S52 hoses run to the same locations less the inline thermostat for the throttle body. Is this thermostat needed for the OBD1 conversion or is it that the S52 metal piping gets in the way of mounting the OBD1 intake manifold? Thanks for any info.

    I found that using the spider hose was easier than trying to use the metal tube on the S52. If you don't want to run the hose to the TB you can just block it off with a bolt and clamp.

      Or a 3rd coolant temp sender and clamp.

        welcome. i have found the metal hose gets in the way of the mounting arms for the obd1 intake manifold. some people just mount the intake with only one arm. if you use the adapter, make sure you epoxy. the adapters have been known to come out if not installed properly with epoxy....(catastrophic water loss.) cheers, jason

          I modified the wiring harness carrier to lay over the OBD2 pipe.

          I don't understand leaving a buried rubber hose when you can re-use the original pipe with a whopping cost of 2 new O-rings & then some time doing a bit of work to the wire carrier. I see that metal pipe as a huge upgrade in design.

          Hasn't anyone else just shimmed & trimmed the carrier?

            Thanks for the input guys... I can see the advantages on both sides of this one - I agree about liking the robust metal tube, but also would want both support brackets for the plastic intake manifold. Guess I'll make a judgement call once I get in there and start fitting up the intake.

              If you take your time you can use 2 intake mani supports. It's not mutually exclusive.

              It's metal, out-think it.
