    Header/exhaust question...

I am putting the ebay headers in with the S52 swap and plan on running a 2.5" system, except for the sections that require a 2 into 1 connection, such as from the header into the cat and then from the 2.5" pipe into the muffler.

I have a new Scorpion rear muffler and wonder if I need to use a small muffler/resonator behind the cat to keep the exhaust quiet. Stealth is my goal with no loss in power from keeping the noise down....

I think you will need two mufflers and a cat to keep the exhaust nice and stealth. I have heard the exhaust like on Gustav's m3 (e30m3performance.com) and it sounds fantastic and is super quiet. He is using a cat and two straight through mufflers to keep it nice and quiet and it works very well.

I have a very similar setup on my swapped car with only one muffler at the rear and a cat and it is significantly louder. My swapped car is nice and quiet at idle but it screams when you're on it. I'd consider a small high quality straight through muffler right after your cat if you want to keep the system quiet. Then you can use a larger muffler at the rear. Performance should not be affected and it will stay as quiet as an aftermarket performance setup can get.

M/S series engines seem to be quieter and make less resonant noises. Some have been able to get away with only one muffler.

I have ebay headers, a Magnaflow round resonator/muffler and a 3 chamber Flowmaster and my car is way too damn loud. Oh, and 3" piping.

Mine is similar to that ^^^ and it's rediculously loud, some of that is the 3" piping though too.

Which straight thru muffler would be the best? Something like a cherry bomb or something else? I'd like to keep it short enough to allow the system to be as compact as possible without restricting flow...

I actually ordered myself a 27" Cherry Bomb. I am going to swap my 20" Magnaflow out for it.

Hopefully that helps. But yes, the 3" piping makes it nice and loud too, lol.
