    Using single-mass eta flywheel?

I searched for 15 minutes and couldn't find an answer on this.

My car is an 01/86 build, so I'm almost positive it has the single-mass flywheel, which I'm told early '86 eta cars had. Are there any differences between this flywheel and the 325i single mass, namely any that would prevent me from using it? I'm planning to have it lightened, so before I have that done, I need to know if I can use this one, or if I have to get one from a 325i. Thanks!

from what i've read, the single mass is on 84-85 etas, your probably has the dual mass. however, you will find out for certain when you open it up...

Yea, I'm going to agree with Golde30. I believe the single mass flywheels only came on VERY early eta's and later I's.

I guess we'll see. But if I in fact do have the single, can I use it?

Don't know if you can use it, but I think the single mass was used until 3/86. Both my 85 and 86 have single mass. Of course they are only 4 months apart.

That's what I heard, too. I know the first time I drove this car, it felt like it revved a lot faster than the eta I had before, and that one did have a dual mass.

I don't remember if it's a dual or single, but mine was manufactured 2/86. I had Metric Mechanic shave the flywheel, and now I've got a Spec clutch hooked up to it in conjunction with the 260 tranny with my S50 swap. The car isn't running yet, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

If you're using it with your swap, I can't imagine it being the dual mass. You'd have known it!

But at any rate, awesome news. Thanks.

Latter "I" flywheel won't work for you. Doesn't accommodate the CKP (TDC Sensor).

That sensor isn't required in a "24V swap."

Sorry to bump an old thread gentlemen but i think I have a question that may be a worthwhile addition to this discussion. I have a shaved down single mass ETA flywheel that I would like to use for my M50 swap. If I were to use this am I supposed to use the older and bigger ETA starter? Or am I supposed to use a smaller late model M20 starter? Is there a difference in the ring gear or is it all the same?
