    S52 swap into 318iS

I am seriously contemplating this swap. Does anyone know what type of preformance numbers this would create. Would like to have the same preferomance as I get in my stock 350z. I have seen a lot about this swap but dont here any numbers from anyone. Any info would be appreciated

So I guess nobody knows what kind of preformaance to get out of an s52 swap using a realistic diff ratio... not the stock 4.10 on my 318

Define performance. I might go and stop as fast as a 350z, and for sure you can hustle an E30 around a race circuit, but an E30 will never have the chassis dynamics of a 350z. Ever. The Z is so easy to drive and forgiving at the limit, while the E30 will bite you in the ass if you aren't on top of it all the time.

e30's 0-60 and 1/4mi blow, even with an s52. even still who knows, also depends on the driver, tires/setup many things factor in... from a roll it'll beat your Z and that's probably what you want to hear.

performance wise ~210whp after installation mods. say i/h/e, more so if you do an obdI conversion or keep obdII and just add an m50 mani like i did. ratio really depends on what transmission you use.

what do you plan to do with the e30?
            No more e30s for me.

I know the car wont out preform my z. Tire size is a major limiting factor on this car as I see it. But the e30 is fun in a oversized go-kart kind of way... its more raw... Is the preformance gain worth the money spent.. Im figuring 4 to 5k for the swap total... Is it worth it in your guys opinion or would I be better off saving the cash and putting it towards something else..

AS far as what I would like for the e30 is to autocross it....when I say autocross it would just be for fun..not trying to win any classes but just want to have fun with a car that will put me back in my seat and a car I can toss around.

I really want my car to have controled power. I see these turbo s52 cars on youtube and its all wheel spin,,, not cool to me. I want to be able to accelerate har off of corners, right now I push the gas pedal and nothing happens just want more out of this car.

gearing would help with the wheel spin

its an m3 body= wider tires. it will beat a Z in a drag race. I was in the car. and like rkettner said regearing would help with that or better tires.

That is my next question,,, should I just save for a few years and buy an e30 m3... obviously tire size options would increase but how much more potential does a m3 have vs standard e30.... I could justify putting an additional 5k into a 15k car much easier than putting it into a 3k car.

Although I would feel guilty pulling the s14 motor out of an m3... just seems sacreligious almost.

no matter what category an e30 w/ an s52 will beat a 350Z in a 1/4 race and especially off a roll...with the right suspension it will easily out handle a Z...only category as far as performance that it doesn't hold up with the Z is brakes...other than that the swap is totally worth it...plus what is better then having a 20 year old car keep up with or beat today's popular sports cars? e30+s52= embarassment for rich guys with big egos :giggle:
