    IX booster

I'm about to start my s50 swap. Motors bought and tranny will be soon. Decided on the IX booster with 25mm MC. Car is a 5 lug swap, just completed, along with J stock & full cage. Will be my track car. I've researched the different boosters, but for some reason I don't see anybody complaining about the price for the IX. Dealer has it for $1000 new. I'm assuming everybody's buying a used one. Curious if its a smart option for a car thats almost twenty years old or maybe I'm missing something. Any help is appreciated.

        It's $1000 cost @ the dealer, $1325 retail. My contacts @ SSF say $975.

        Matt, thanks for the help.

            booster new/used ?

I ran SCCA in the ITB class for many years and started with a NEW booster when I built my car. I found that the NEW BOOSTER was much too light on the pedal for track use and installed a good used which was a little heaver and perfect under pressure (driver) . This car when I ran it with one of my mechanics was winner/lap record holder at both Sear Point and Laguna Seca until He totaled it at Sears Point trying to win the race on the first lap !! PS for those of you that are thinking it was a BMW , It was a 71' 142E volvo which came stock at 10.5cr and a 4:11 . It ran against the carb 2002 BMWs and could out brake and out torque them which is just a drag race between turns!! And run the stock booster, I and a lot of other have too ! good luck joe

Cool setup, that's exactly what my car has except for the full cage. I'm in the process of acquiring a 4-point bolt in right now. I think the j-stock suspension is a really slick setup for these swapped cars. I was quite quick around the corners, surprisingly the car felt about the same as my e30 m3 with a little slower turn in.

What gearing will you be using?

With regards to your booster. I bought an iX and e21 booster when I did my swap. I ended up going with the e21 booster because it seemed to fit better for my needs. I really don't think the braking has been an issue for me, like you I'm using m3 brakes all around, as you probably know brake ducting will be necessary. I've only noticed fade two times, but I attribute those to my driving at the time more than the brakes system, I was testing my brake marker limits for a few laps :)

Go with a used booster if you can find a good deal to start with, as long as the inner diaphragm is not damaged it should work very well.

Post some pics of your car...

I Bought a used one, no problems with it other than:

My experience with the ix booster sucks. Im currently running it now with the fins shaved on the intake, 1/4" spacers on both motor mounts, and It still rubs. I'm going to have to slot the mounting holes.
The brake pedal feels the same as it did with the original booster.
I used the DSM reservoir with 2002 lines and nipples, and the e34 540 clutch res.

My advice is to slot the holes before you install the booster and motor, lol. Now I gotta pull the whole setup out.
It seems like the stock booster would have worked better, with slightly less mods.

                  Thanks for the advice.

I keeping the stock 3.73lsd. Not sure how well it will work, I've heard different results

I found a new IX boster online for much cheaper than the dealer. I'm hoping I will not have as much problems with clearance. After looking around, looks like she used to sell for about $350 @ the stealer. But BMW started increasing prices a certain parts around 50-100%. BMW Roundels used to sell for $15. BMW more than doubled the price to $45.

I'll post pics up soon. She just got out of the paint shop.

Hope you get clearance, because I sure dont.

The 3.73/zf combo also was less than enjoyable if you do any highway driving.
At 80mph in 5th I was doing about 4200 rpm, along with a loud exhaust, it was annoying.
I swapped in a 3.15 z3m diff, and its much more usable.
