    turner chip? thoughts?

So I talked to turner motorsports today about a chip for my car. I'm not really in "need" of one yet, but trying to figure out what my options are. Custom tuning runs about $600 - $1000 and I'm not interested in spending that at the moment.

    Current Set-Up:
    Aluminum M52 fully coverted to ('93 wiring) OBD1 w/ s50 cams and 17lb injectors.

they suggested a stock s50 M3 performance chip for $250. doesn't seem like a bad price.

    any thoughts or suggestions....

Also, a buddy of mine that is a master bmw mechanic and also works @ a dyno shop in my town, suggested to put in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. has anyone bought and installed one yet? I think they're around $300 - $350. I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

This is right down matt's alley! The Racer's Market offers an M52 2.8L, pink top 21.5 lb/hr injectors, S5x cam, OBD-I software for $350 according to their website.

I'd PM matt about it, to confirm availability.

From what I've seen TRM has done some really nice tunes. Nice and even, safe AFRs, smooth curves all the way.

Doing all the fuel tuning in software is the way to go, rather than bolting on an AFPR/RRFPR, especially if there's already an off-the-shelf solution.

Save your money and get a custom tune later.

          Thanks Fred!

Custom tunes are where it's at... but they are pricey (both the tune and the dyno time) and there is definitely a point of diminishing returns. Can't argue with a 190whp stock M50 though.

Turner/Conforti chips are fine, but they don't customize them nearly as well or in as many ways as we do. Our OBDI S52 chip runs worlds better than the S50 chip they'll tell you to run, for example. :) I would guess the same story would apply on the M52. Our chip was actually tuned on an OBDI M52... not an S50 chip that "will work"

Edit: Just noticed you're running 17lb injectors instead of the stock OBDII 21.5s... that's fine, but please make sure when you check out, you put that in the comments. :)

Right now, i have the 17lb injectors, but i have the 21.5lb injectors sitting on my bench that i can install. what would be better performance wise?

No difference at all at your power level... I just need to know which you plan on running so that the chip matches the injectors.
