        Kind of a no brainer since you haven't swapped any driveline except for the engine correct?

        Sacarstic yes but silly question.

                  is the e36 non-m tranny a "getrag 250" then?

                  what happens if you had an auto e30 that you swapped in e36 motor and 5spd tranny? then what shoud you use?

                  I got a quote for $220 to modify the stock auto driveshaft with the front half of the e36 driveshaft (so it fits the guibo bolt pattern). Measure, Cut, Cut, weld, spin, balance (entire shaft). Does that sound like a good deal or is there something cheaper...?

                    ^^
                    e30 = getrag 260 tranny. use stock driveshaft
                    e36 = ZF tranny. use e30 M3, e36 328i or obdII e36 M driveshaft...the ones with 4 bolts in the back.

                    i wouln't cut and weld driveshafts....+ welding weakens worked metal. there's 2 ways of doing things: The right way.
                    No more e30s for me.

                        Dude. Just get a E36 325i driveshaft for ~$75-120 at ANY junkyard.

                        Not all E36s came with a ZF.

                        E36 325: Getrag 250
                        E36 M3 and 328: ZF 310/320

                        You cannot use a driveshaft meant for a ZF 310/320 on a Getrag 250. The guibos are larger on the ZF trannys. Now it is possible to swap the trans output flange but seriously, don't overthink this. Just get a E36 325i driveshaft.

                              Also, a bunch of early E34's had ZF310's.
