    24v 2002?

How much work would have to go into doing a s50 swap into a 2002? How many parts are usable from the e30 swap on one?

Just asking because I have a swapped e30 that needs a new home for the drivetrain. But I'm still lookin into getting an e30 without a motor as well. Just wanted to know how much more work would have to go into a 2002.

    Thanks for replies

theres a guy who put an m52 stroked and turbo'd into a 2002ti, its a monster, but he had to basically built a new frame, and bolted the 2002ti shell onto it.

Terry Sayther Auto did one. Not as modified as the monster that golde30 speaks of (was it an M52 or an M54?) but still requires careful planning:

That's what I thought you'd have to do. Or at least cut the firewall, trans tunnel and rebuild the rear-end to handle the power, add big brakes and possibly a cage. SO... A lot of work! For A LOT OF FUN! LOL. I think the e30 will do fine, just have to keep looking.

I started to do it with an m50 i had laying around... but my 2002 had too much rust.

There are a couple hurdles. Widening the transmission tunnel, and moving the firewall.

The fire wall has to come back four inches or so... make it five. The tunnel has to be widened inches or so on both sides of the hump.

I approached it by cutting the tunnel from the back side of the shifter hole to the fire wall. The shifter should come right up in the original spot the same way it does in the e30.

After you get the engine in and mounted then rebuild a tunnel with sheet metal.

2002faq.com has the most info, and there is not much.

Just do it the way I do... tear it apart and figure out how to get it back in.

a Getrag 260 is going to be your best bet since it has overdrive. The 2002 has limited options for rearend gearing... i think mine had a 3.91 open diff.

There will be no speed ref connection... that means it needs to be turned off with a chi or something... not sure how that would work.

I don't like terry's because it is a complete car rebuild... all you need to do is get the engine in... not reengineer the lil guy.

My next BMW project will be a 24v 2002.

              Not as modified ??
Well its not turbo if thats what you mean ....but it is sporting E36 M3 front & rear suspension , I believe they modified the E36 floorpan to fit the 02 .
So basically its a track modified E36 M3 with a 2002 body on it .

But yes that blue one mentioned is pretty bad assed , isn't it all wheel drive or at least sports a rear transaxle ?

took the words out of my mouth. the only thing 2002 about Terry's car is the body....under that is all E36 (minus about 14 inches so the 2002 body would fit).
