Website with wiring diagrams, post yours

Dylan, who is a member here, and I are putting a website together to post our car projects, DIY read ups, and host technical resources. I am putting my wiring diagram up that I used to do my swap. If you have one and you want to share please post it, and I will add it to the site.

    Thanks,

The website is www.bmwdiy.org or www.bmwdoityourself.org

It just went up last night so it is still a shell, but you get the idea.

here i go again.....preaching on a soap box.

i know your trying to be helpful. but your just giving some hack mechanics a false sence of security that they can pull off the wiring. either figure it out yourself, or buy an already-made adapter from like treehouse or akg.

do you really want to be following someone else's chart? are you really going to entrust your car to 4th hand information from someone who doesnt even understand basic wiring of an e30?

sorry to make an example of you.....and i dont mean any hard feelings......but, if you dont even know where the temp gauge gets its signal, im not going to trust your wiring diagrams for an obd2 / e30 conversion.

dont follow anyone else's diagram. make your own.

i have xl files on 5-6 different e30's (all different wirings) and (3) different e36 wirings........so thats a lot of different combinations, ALL DIFFERENT.

^^ i agree with what you say, i too saw the difference, but mostly wire colors (between "i/is") there was 1 pin difference but it was a ground/hot so it could mess you up big time. It could be very helpfull as a startoff point. That's why state in my thread that its for an 88 325is and 97 & 98 M3&MZ3.

as for the temp sensor dilema, its the ONLY thing not working in my car at the moment you'd be surprised how perfect everything else works... and for the record i had confused the temp sensor at the head and the one at the radiator. but ouch man i'm gonna have to visit my good friend johnnie walker

I did my own wiring a year ago when I did my swap. This is a resource for other people. The problem with most of the wiring diagrams as you said is that they are not car or year specific. As long as the diagram is for your car and your year you should be fine. Do you mind emailing me your diagrams so I can host them? At least people will have something to start with. My email is stuartburgh@gmail.com

          Thanks

Yeah, touchy issue. I agree with both of you.
I certainly had some wiring dilemmas, I wanted to see if anyone else had my model E30, just to get confirmation on some wires I couldn't identify. I even posted my full wiring (you can look it up if you want). Heaps of people read it, and I did not get ONE reply. I was a bit bummed, but in hindsight, I guess it was reasonable. Fair enough, you dont want to misinform people, but on the other hand, it'd be pretty poor for someone to go and wire something up blind. I know I wouldn't.
The one forseeable advantage of doing something like this, is we could get a database of all the different variants that were built. All the better when the same models ARE different. In my mind, if used corerctly, this would save alot of time. In my case, I had no access to ETMs for Australian cars, which were also different. Going off German, US and Canadian ETMs was a REAL PITA.
It would also allow development of new solutions to things. Eg; M52's. Most here on the forum avoid them like the plague, when they aren't any more difficult to get working, just different. This kind of sharing would have obvious advantages.
Having said all this Sh*t, I imagine it'd take alot filtering rubbish from reasonably useful info, maybe this would be too much in the long run, I dont know, I've never hosted a forum!
ANyway, enough on that, just my thoughts for the evening.
            Jetzt Schlafzeit.

Too difficult to generalize. I have had 3 different wiring harness for my Euro and all have required something a bit different to get them working. The first was an straight forward RHD M3 harness, the 2nd was a LHD MZ3 (assumed it was the same as the M3, but no it is not), 3rd was another RHD M3 harness that seemed to be a hodge podge of the other 2. Really the best way to fix your electrical issues is to get an ETM and start tracing wires. Use continuity testers if you are unsure. I couldn't read an ETM until I started. A few hints from a friend and now I can read them with little issues. I am not an engineer, so if I can do it, anybody can.

this is actually a great idea. i for one am doing a conversion similar to stu's and am starting out with the same car, 318is. as long as people understand which car they start with and what engine/computer theyre putting in, each diagram should be helpful. i would much rather try to copy a diagram from someone who has successfully done the swap than take the *pussnboots* way out and cash out $400. the less money i put into the actual swap, the more i can mod after i get it runnin!!

i basically went off of some1's wiring diagram they posted in the other thread, more like 2 or 3 different ppls diagrams, and pulled it off pretty good.

as do it...BUT it is a great startoff point and should be followed with an ETM. i have never wired an engine in my life and guess what? following people's diagrams and etm.s for both cars i made my thing run with EWS security. whichever the case i'll be more than happy to edit my diagrams and send you pics of them.
