    s52 rebuild cost?

I know theres no way to get an "estimate" so to speak of a rebuild, but what did you guys throw down to rebuild you s5xs?

I'm thinking performance anyways, VAC head, cams, beefed up bottom, etc etc. I'm trying to guesstimate quick what it would cost. Haven't crunched the numbers or anything. The rebuild is way in the future for now.

    Edit:

Oh wanna get it ready for FI, probably won't have even close to enough money to do it during the rebuild but sometime down the line I will.

With stock bits, the head ran about 1k redone, aftermarket on the next one will be closer to 2500 plus cams.

    Havent touched the blocks yet.

3k-50k depending on who's doing it.

        Me, so parts cost.

Head ~$2k (I would just get a VAC prebuilt)
        Cams ~$1500
        Pistons ~$1k
Vanos? Don't know what that would cost to "rebuild"

Obviously I am just picking out most of the big shit, leaving out a ton of other stuff. Just trying to judge what the "other stuff" would cost going along the lines of the kind of engine I want to build.

I'd stay away from VAC after what I've read about their work on Bimmerforums.

All the little parts add up quick. I've spent well over $2500 on rebuilding just the top-end of my S50, and thats with my dealer employee discount. This is all new everything in the head-- guides, valves, Supertech double valve springs, retainers, keepers, lifters, etc.

Does the motor need a rebuild or are do you just want to build it with FI in mind?

I have to rebuild an engine next year in school, and since I don't care about my jetta I figure its a good time to do my m3. Does it neeeeed a rebuild? no, but I do want FI someday so I might as well get her ready.

$10k is what I had in mind, but I pulled that number out of my ass more or less.

Nothing is set in stone yet, I just was looking at VAC heads a while back, I don't know if I will go with them, but something in the same performance area, IE not stock.

I know from my swap you have to put some serious cash into nickle and dime areas. That part blew my budget out of the water. So I want to be prepared now lol.

If you want BALLER cams, get the EvoSport 290/290's. God I WILL own a set and have them in my E30 at some point.
