    Trans removal engine support

I'm going to have to pull my trans out tomorrow. The Bentley shows that nifty brace to support the back of the block. I obviously dont have one. Also, the E34 oil pan has those "ribs" along the back. I'm afraid to break one if I use a wood block on a jackstand to shore up the engine.

When you guys yank the gearbox out, what do you do about the engine?

    Thanks

I had great success with a small piece of plywood under the oil pan and then a 2x4 on the head of my jack up against the plywood. It held like that for about a week. It was a smaller motor (s14) but the same principal either way. It works, if you use the oiplan to support just make sure to distribute the weight.

I had mine (M52) with the E34 sump on wood. But it tipped forward if you unbolted the box I guess thats the ally block!
So I supported the sump from the front. For a while I also just had a short bit of wood between the front of the head and hte crossbar, near the bonnet mounts (make sure the Rad is out!)
I Had the motor in without the box for about a week. No probs. Just pick your support point with a littel foresight!

          Nice woodwork by the way!

a jack stand would have worked fine.
