    CEL wiring

I have a 1986 325ES with a M50NV also a gauge cluster that has a CEL. I need to know how to wire my CEL. From my DME to a wire in the cluster?

I have no idea where to start. I know i have to run the pin out from the dme to my cluster cause the 86 doesnt have wiring for a CEL. But i have a cluster with a CEL.

    ???? Help ???

start by reading the ETM for the Cluster.

I've done tons of these, but I of course don't remember the exact pin.

Locate the CEL wire on the C101 adaption that you have done, locate 12V and toss a lightbulb in the middle of it.

The ECU will ground out to complete the circuit when it comes on.

The e30 cluster does not have a built in CEL light, it has a removable light/plug (identical to the light in your center console ashtray for instance, that plugs into that back)

                Its 2 wires.

                  cheers, jason .
there is wiring for it at the m50 x20 connector...... but NOT at the c101 e30 side for an 86es.

agreed. good advice james. just add a CEL in the cluster and wire if you really need one.

Im so confused. You not being a jerk you just trying to tell me something i didnt understand.

This is my understanding to this. Behind the CEL in the gauge cluster there is 2 wires take one of the wires and hook it up to the pinout on the M50 side.

What do i do with the other wire. Or what do i do with both wires on the light side in the general.

Its pin 8 (gray wire) on them50 x20. Find a 12 volt switched power source, wire it to a light either in the cluster, or where ever you want it. wire the negative side of the light to pin 8 of the x20. your done.
