Without the tranny sure, depending on the price.
I decided to go S50 because what I am doing now is essentially a ... practice run in a 318iS. Once the engine is in, we'll work on suspension and brakes and determine how many more horsepower will be effective (as opposed to just bragging rights): it seems that 7Jx16" rims with 225/45-16 are already going to be nontrivial to install, so anything beyond the 260-270 crank of a properly tuned S50 is actually going to be detrimental.
I don't think so, no: my mechanic has offered me more than that. What I can tell you is that my engine IIRC is a 1997 - which makes no difference - and it doesn't have a red valve cover plate or a cone intake like that one does, which toghether with the fact that it seems to be coming out of a whole car would explain the price to a certain degree. It also has ~25k less miles and very, very tight compression numbers.
If you're on the eastern side of PA it's also significantly more local.
