    upsporten der e30m50

Got about 25-30k problem free miles on the m50 since installing. Car was used for daily duty, but now that ive got a second car its time to hot rod the 24v. I am now faced with 2 choices; either I build a new bottom end which will either be a 2.8 or a 2.9l, or time for boost in the form of a supercharger. If I go with a new bottom end, it will be a strictly all motor build with high compression and headwork. Some sort of tuning is in order for either set-up and cost will probably be around the same. Power wise, im probably looking at 260whp with boost and 230 with a 2.9

so and ideas or comments about either choice? Let me hear some advice on which direction i should take.

I would go with a supercharger.

Not sure which is more expensive though.

Go turbo. More power potential for less money. Use the M52 rods/crank for forged stuff and get a set of pistons that will lower your CR to about 8.5:1. Then you're golden.

seconded. I have been toying around with the idea of a s/c but am holding out because i know it will only be a temporary fix.

I agree, however, i have kinda strayed away from turbo at this point. The power is definitely more plentiful with a turbo, but I've put a lot of time and work into the headers and exhaust that I have now, and I dont want to half ass a turbo build. If I did it, id want to do it right, and the build i have in mind would be $$$.

In that case, go SC. You will spend a LOT of money trying to squeeze every last HP out of an NA motor. I know I am.

you are probably right there. id be getting into headwork, cams, valve springs, and machining, and i know that adds up. And i probably will get bored with a super charger, but the m50 is still fun to me and id like to have a car that will run somewhere in the 13s and still be very streetable that i can drive a lot.

Ive got another car for stupid fast straight line acceleration.
